During my days as a 19-year old in fortune-telling training
Today’s story is from when I was 19 years old, studying not just palm reading but all different kinds of fortune-telling, driven by my voracious curiosity.
I wanted to figure out the accuracy of all kinds of fortune-telling, whatever it might be—
from palm reading to azimuthology, onomancy, physiognomy, Western astrology, four pillars astrology, numerology, house physiognomy, Feng shui, qimen dunjia, purple star astrology, I Ching divination, oneiromancy, and more. I bought as many books on them as I could get my hands on, and studied them all.
*I later came to the decision that palm reading, azimuthology, oneiromancy, and physiognomy suited me most, and specialized in these.
This was a time without the Internet, so there was no such thing as studying on YouTube.
All you had if you wanted to study something were books.
Figuring out the accuracy of various kinds of fortune-telling
And so I did fortune-telling experiments, doing what I could to make them work for me.
This particular story was in the spring, when I was 19 years old.
I had bought a book on I Ching divination—a form of fortune-telling that involves flipping six ten-yen coins to discern the future—and wanted to figure out how accurate it could be.
*I Ching divination is a simplified form of “eki” fortune-telling, in which you flip coins to determine yin or yang, based on whether the coins are heads (yang) or tails (yin).
Using pachinko for my I Ching divination experiment
At the time, I had already moved out of my parents’ house in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture, and lived in Seto City in Aichi Prefecture.
Aichi Prefecture is known for its strong pachinko culture.
I too would sometimes go to the pachinko parlor across the river from my apartment, to play pachinko.
Some of you might be surprised. “Nishitani-sensei? Playing pachinko?”
But there was a reason for this.
My dream was not just to become a fortune-teller, but also to become a composer, and I often went to the pachinko parlor, so that I could hear as many hit Showa-era Japanese pop songs and new music as possible.
There was no other good environment where I could listen to so many different songs at that loud a volume.
Having my palms read by 250 professional palm readers
At the time, I was also going to sessions with professional palm readers to study palm reading.
After moving to Tokyo, I went to each and every reputable palm reader I could find, paying their fees, and eventually getting my palms read by a total of 250 professional palm readers.
During this time, I of course also had my palms read by professional palm readers who had not made a name for themselves.
I will not discuss all of these palm readers here, but… my overall opinion was that there were very few good palm readers among them.
Because of these experiences, however, I did also become a professional at getting my palms read.
But that is beside the point.
The point is that as dedicated as I am to my efforts, it makes sense that I was this dedicated to going to pachinko parlors to be exposed to music.
A usual pachinko win rate of one win for every two losses
What I figured out from these visits to the pachinko parlor was that my pachinko win rate was one win for every two losses.
This was my average win rate across the year (across maybe 70 visits).
*To “win” at pachinko means the following.
The pachinko parlor gives you a certain number of towels depending on the number of pachinko balls you have won when you decide you are done for the day.
Let’s say, for instance, that you have won 1,050 pachinko balls. This might earn you something like 10 towels and a bar of chocolate.
You then take these towels and other winnings to a shed behind the pachinko parlor, where they will buy these towels from you for 500 yen each (250 yen each for the chocolate bars).
This means you earn a total of 5,250 yen. If the money you paid for the pachinko balls at the start of your visit was 3,000 yen, you have “won” pachinko for that day, with 2,250 yen in winnings.
As to how I Ching divination impacted my pachinko win rate…
Here is what I did. I would do my I Ching divination, praying hard, and if it told me I would lose or struggle if I went, I wouldn’t go.
Then, after about an hour, I would pray intently again, and flip another round of coins.
And if it said I would win if I went now, I would tear out of my apartment immediately to go to the pachinko parlor.
Again and again, I did this.
And the result!?
An unbelievable win rate!
Whereas normally I only had one win for every two losses, I now won 10 times in a row!
This was just an unbelievable win rate.
And that was at my skill level, which at that pachinko parlor was only one win after every two losses.
But now I had won ten times in a row, in the same pachinko parlor. An impossible win rate.
I stopped doing I Ching divination after that, and moved on to study other forms of fortune-telling.
However, I still remember that experience vividly.
Tarot card reading as similar to I Ching divination, in an intuitive sense
I feel that a form of fortune-telling that is similar to I Ching divination, intuitively and in terms of accuracy as well, is tarot card reading.
However, it is only the skilled, experienced tarot card readers, who have a lot of affection for others, who can give the right advice.
I had many sessions with tarot card readers as well.
And seeing as I am a professional in having my fortune told, the number of tarot card readers I went to was truly enormous.
A wonderful tarot card reader
I became a professional at having my fortune read through tarot card readings. And having experienced so many of these sessions myself, I can recommend to you with confidence a particular tarot card reader—Junka Ikumi, who I also introduce on my website.
I’ve discussed many of her tarot card readings in the past, and everyone who experiences it is stunned by its accuracy.
“I think Ikumi-sensei must be a psychic. she knows things I’ve never told anyone—it’s absolutely insane!” said A, a 52-year old female customer.
“I went to a tarot card reading with Ikumi-sensei to figure out when I should start my own restaurant.
She told me, ‘Don’t do it now! You should wait a while.’ And so I was waiting, when two months later the COVID-19 pandemic began, and starting a restaurant became the last thing on my mind.
That could have been a truly dangerous thing to do, and she saved me from it,” said N, a 45-year old male customer in the restaurant industry.
So many of these stories from so many grateful people, and these are only the ones I’ve heard about personally.
Currently very popular!
You can have a tarot card reading session with Ikumi-sensei in my palm reading office.
I encourage you all to get a tarot card reading done as well.
I expect her tarot card reading sessions will become fully booked in the future, and very difficult to get reservations for.
If you ever come to Japan, please make your way to my reading office, located a three-minute walk away from Koenji Station in Tokyo, not only for a palm reading session with me, but also for a tarot card reading by Ikumi-sensei.
The address for my reading office is:
