A palm with absolutely no fine lines…
This is the story of S (48 years old), who came in for a palm reading session.
Both of her palms had no fine lines whatsoever, indicating an easygoing, unfussy, and straightforward personality.
I looked at her palms and said to her,
”You don’t have any fine lines on your palms, which means you have an easygoing and straightforward personality.”
But her response was surprising.
Palms full of fine lines, changed dramatically!?
”Sensei, my palm lines have changed completely. When I was 20 and working at a restaurant, an older male customer once said to me,
‘Your hands are so full of lines they look like the hands of an 80-year old grandma.’
That’s how many fine lines I had on my palms,” S said.
That said, this older gentleman was probably confusing the lines on a person’s palms with the wrinkles on a person’s face.
Just to clarify, the number of fine lines on the palms has nothing to do with age.
People with lots of fine lines on their palms tend to be sensitive
Those with lots of fine lines on their palms tend to be sensitive and neurotic, with a tendency to worry about everything.
But those fine lines had disappeared from S’s palms?
Hearing this obviously made me want to learn what had changed about her outlook on life.
And so I asked her about her life story.
What on earth had happened to her!?
S said that she’d been very sensitive ever since she was a child, always worrying about what people were thinking about her.
She was reserved, and even in class, would never raise her hand to answer a teacher’s question, even when she knew the right answer.
She married at the age of 22.
She had a hardworking husband, two children, purchased a home, and by all appearances was living a stable married life.
But then… When S was 35, her husband abandoned the family, leaving them with the debt he had taken on.
Left on her own with her 9-year old son and 14-year-old daughter, S found herself in a desperate situation.
S made the decision: “I’ll repay the debt myself!”
From that point on, S’s home was flooded daily with debt collection calls. The intercom wouldn’t stop ringing, and they had people pounding on their door. It all brought her to the verge of a nervous breakdown.
A lawyer she consulted advised her to declare bankruptcy, but she insisted that she would repay the debt herself, and continued to work tirelessly.
With her husband gone, the expenses of raising her children, their home loan, and her husband’s debt all fell squarely on her shoulders. And yet S persisted, without even relying on public assistance.
As her outlook on life changed, so did her palm lines
Having eventually overcome this desperate situation, S said during her visit:
”Since then, it didn’t matter what difficulties came my way—compared to what I went through after my husband disappeared, it all felt manageable.”
And so a few years after her husband’s disappearance, she suddenly found that her palms were completely without fine lines, becoming the hands of someone cheerful, easygoing, and unbothered.
Experiences like that are bound to change the way one sees life.
And so this was the story of how S’s palms changed, which she shared with me during her palm reading session.
